Our Classes

AT STAIRCASE IMPROV, WE BELIEVE THAT IMPROV SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE, SAFE, FUN, INCLUSIVE, AND AFFORDABLE.

To deliver on this, we offer several options for all budgets and levels. Our most affordable option is weekly drop-in classes for all levels. For those wanting a little bit more, we also offer Improv Training Series where you can work with a small group and a single instructor every week for up to six weeks.

Please use the two buttons below to learn more about each.

SERIES give you small-group attention (maximum 12 players) where you will be with the same group and same instructor for up to six weeks at a time. This is your opportunity to delve deeper into the art of improv.

STEPS ONE
Here you’ll learn the foundations of improv and our STEPS curriculum. This six-week course is the perfect place to start.

STEPS TWO
This series is the logical progression after STEPS ONE which is a prerequisite. The STEPS skills will be honed and you will learn how to receive and give constructive notes. After succesful completion of this series, you will be invited to join the Intermediate level of Drop-In classes as desired.

SPECIAL SKILLS
These series of varied offering and length gives you the chance to gain expertise in more specific areas of improv from instructors that specialize in the area. Past offerings have included Character Development and Long-Form Improv.

DROP-IN CLASSES come in two “flavours”.

MONDAY DROP-IN NIGHTS
have been one of the longest running improv gatherings in the city and we offer two classes those nights.
FUNdamentals is for beginners, for those just looking to do improv for fun, or for personal growth and development.
Intermediate is for those that have qualified* for that level. The focus is on taking your improv to the next level through more directed and personal notes and on becoming/being stage-ready.

WILDCARD WEDNESDAYS
are just that. Most typically you’ll find a drop-in class that is capped at a smaller size to give you more attention. Each class will focus on a specific element of improv (E.g. character development, accepting offers, etc.) We will also keep things fresh with different Wildcard options that could include shows, show/workshop combinations, or hot yoga in our kombucha tanks.

* To qualify for Intermediate Drop-Ins, a player must successfully complete the STEPS ONE and STEPS TWO series or equivalent. Contact education@staircaseimprov.com with any questions or concerns.
